Governor releases lists
of judicial candidates

Lingle has 30 days to select
a nominee from each list and send
the names to the state Senate.

Gov. Linda Lingle has released two lists of potential judicial nominations.

The lists of possible nominees to Oahu Circuit Court and the Intermediate Court of Appeals were given to Lingle on Monday by the Judicial Selection Commission. Lingle has 30 days to select one nominee from each list.

The nominations are then sent to the state Senate for confirmation.

The Senate has 30 days to approve or reject the nomination, or the person automatically becomes a judge.

Four of the six in both groups had previously been included in other panels sent to Lingle but had not been nominated.

Included in the panel to fill the vacancy created by the retirement of Circuit Judge Dan Kochi are Bert Ayabe and James Hershey.

The remaining four candidates, Ronette Kawakami, District Judge Gerald Kibe, Dale Lee and Michael Tanigawa had all been recommended for past judicial appointments.

Of the six named as candidates to be the new seventh associate judge of the Court of Appeals, Susan Ichinose and Circuit Judges Victoria Marks, Richard Perkins and Michael Town were previous candidates.

The two new candidates are Alexa Fujise and Circuit Judge Frances Wong.
