The Hawaii Juvenile Justice Project will hold a public forum from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the Neal Blaisdell Center to address overcrowding and other concerns about the Hawaii Youth Correctional Facility.
National juvenile justice experts Sue Burrell, of the Youth Law Center, and Dan Macallair, of the Center on Juvenile and Criminal Justice, will be joined by local speakers.
The forum, co-sponsored by the Office of Hawaiian Affairs, is the first of several to be held statewide.
The project was formed last fall to increase community support for the placement of children and to contact families of youths who are or have been incarcerated or placed elsewhere in the community.
For reservations to the forum or to express concerns, call 522-5906 or toll-free 888-522-5904. The forum is $5 for those 18 and over, free for children under 18. Scholarships are available.
