Leash your dog at the beach
The state says it is receiving a number of complaints about dogs running loose on beaches.
State Department of Land & Natural Resources Enforcement Chief Gary Moniz said complaints include instances of dogs approaching children, barking and defecating on beaches.
"People think that the law does not apply to them and they can run on the beach with their loose dogs whenever they want," Moniz said. "The truth is that the leash laws are very clear. There is no place for dogs loose on public beaches."
To report a leash law violation, call the department at 587-0077.

HPD seeks 17-year-old juvenile escapee
Honolulu police and the Office of Youth Services are asking for the public's help in finding a juvenile escapee who may be a threat to himself and others, according to detectives.
Robert DeCastro, 17, of the Big Island, suffers from a medical condition that requires medication, and was last seen on Feb. 11. Police said DeCastro has an outstanding warrant for running away from the youth program in Kaneohe and has been known to become violent when not taking his medicine.
Because of juvenile confidentiality laws, police cannot share DeCastro's record with the public.
DeCastro is 5 foot 10 inches tall, weighs about 240 pounds and has blue eyes and shaved brown hair. He also has a scar above his left eye, a four-letter profanity tattooed across the knuckles of his left hand and wears black glasses.
