Independent film and television sales and distribution company Showcase Entertainment has signed a five-year deal with Hawaii Film Partners to exclusively distribute the Honolulu-based company's film and TV projects. HFP, which is committed to producing film and TV productions shot in Hawaii, will produce two to three films annually with budgets between $2 million and $10 million, using local services, personnel and tax incentives. Gina Watumull is a senior executive at HFP, which reportedly has received a tax comfort letter from the state that not only qualifies its current productions, but all of its future productions. The company is looking for co-production partners who have good projects and are able to match the financing that HFP can provide. ...

Nikki Deloach has joined the cast of Fox Television's hotel drama "Oahu," based at the Turtle Bay Resort. Deloach's credits include "Walker, Texas Ranger." ...

The NBC police drama "Hawaii" (formerly titled "Pearl City"), based out of the Hawaii Film Studio, begins filming on Oahu on March 9. ...

Blaise Noto, one of Hollywood's top film publicists who relocated to Maui, is quarterbacking in Los Angeles the publicity for longtime friend Mel Gibson and his "The Passion of the Christ" film through Noto's Entertainment Marketing & Publicity Company. Company vice president Dan Strickford is handling Hawaii. ...

Director-producer Uwe Boll will turn German game developer Crytek's video game "Far Cry" into a $25 million horror movie for Boll KG. Filming should begin next year and the location could be Maui, since the game has elements of "The Island of Dr. Moreau," with a tropical setting and genetic experiments taking place on an island. ...

Karma Media Inc. has completed production of its first television show for distribution in Spanish and English markets through the Web site KarmaJunction.com, as well as satellite and cable providers. The company's first video product is a travel show hosted by its chairperson-model, Estelle Reyna, called "Estelle's Paradise." The show covered Kauai, where the production spent 10 days filming. ...
