Vulcans lead Hawaii teams at John Burns
Troy Higashiyama finished with a three-day total of 211 to lead the UH Hilo "A" golf team to a 12th-place finish at the John Burns Intercollegiate in Wahiawa yesterday.
The Vulcans shot a four-under par 860, the best finish of all Hawaii teams in the 22-team field. Matt Kodama also posted a 211 and tied for 16th individually as the UH Manoa "A" team placed 17th. UH-Hilo "B" finished 21st and UH-Manoa "A" was 22nd.
Arizona won the team title with a total of 833 and New Mexico's Spencer Levin posted a 15-under par 201 to take individual honors.
Rainbow Wahine homer past Bobcats
The Rainbow Wahine softball team snapped a three-game losing streak with a 3-1 win over Ohio at the Campbell/Cartier Classic in Poway, Calif, yesterday.
Tyleen Tausaga and Tracie Uchima each hit a solo home run to lead Hawaii (6-9). Kiersten Scrima also hit a solo homer for Ohio.
Earlier in the day, Oregon beat the Rainbow Wahine 5-2.
Lee helps Big Red win Ivy League title
Junior tri-captain Travis Lee of Honolulu had two wins last weekend as the Cornell wrestling team won its 25th Ivy League Championship.
Lee, ranked No. 1 at 133 pounds, pinned Greg Cook of Harvard and registared a technical fall against Brown's Carl Quindel. Lee, a Saint Louis graduate, has 97 career wins, fifth on the school's all-time victory list.
Islanders tryout tomorrow
The Hawaiian Islanders will host a non-contact tryout tomorrow at Saint Louis. Each participant will be tested in the 40-yard dash, four-corner agility, shuttle run and 225-pound bench press.
Registration starts at 9 a.m. and testing is at 10 a.m. A $25 fee will be charged.
