Kong goes live
at Brew Moon
FORMER ISLE radio deejay Kamasami Kong has got to have one of the best jobs in the world.
As a jock at Japan's FM802, not only does he get paid well to entertain on the air, he also gets to call Osaka's Ritz-Carlton Hotel home. Another perk is coming back to Hawaii several times a year, as he did last week for a live broadcast from Brew Moon in Ward Centre.
Stopping in for dinner on Tuesday night, I got to check out performances by Keahiwai and Jon Yamasato between live breaks by Kong and his co-host, Miki Nakamura. Brew Moon owner Marcus Bender was also on hand to press the flesh with guests.
The most interesting thing I discovered while listening to the broadcast? Almost everything Kong said was in English, while Nakamura would interject every once in a while in Japanese ...
I HAD THE chance to hang out with Miss Hawaii USA 2004 Justine Michioka for a bit on Thursday at the Sheraton Waikiki's Esprit Lounge.
She was there to host the second annual "Raise the Love" fund-raiser, but I caught her early in the evening as she dug into the buffet with roommates Hannah Mendes and Jessica Egeland. Performing during the evening were Dita Holifield and Ells Simeona, Olena Rubin, Jordan Segundo and Yvonne Elliman, with Kimo Kahoano serving as emcee.
Also on hand to "Raise the Love" were promoters Tom Moffatt and Alan Arato; "Blood of the Samurai" producers Anderson Le, Ian Hirokawa and Aaron Yamasato; Vacations Hawaii's Kevin Kaneshiro and Pat Tervola; and E.K. Fernandez's Jon Kawamura ...
AND I KNOW that I'd planned to boycott Valentine's Day, but I just had to try and meet the girls from One Vo1ce after their performance at Volcanoes that night. Too bad faulty microphones put them in a bad mood -- shut down once again!
It was okay, though, since I got to see my new favorite deejay in action at the W Honolulu earlier that night while waiting for a set by the Beat Junkies' DJ Shortkut. Not only is DJ Anit one of the most talented female wax masters on the rock, she's one of the best-looking, too ...
CONGRATS TO Mitchell Okamura and Kim Sato for beating out four other couples at Hawaiian Waters Adventure Park for a free V-Day dinner and limo ride. Congrats also to Eron Fleming, who won a shot at guest-hosting on the new television show "Liquid Hawaii," set to debut March 7 on KGMB ...
