Pixar director to speak

Pixar's Pete Docter, director of "Monsters, Inc.," shares his experiences in a free one-hour presentation, 7 p.m. Thursday at Leeward Community College Theatre. A 30-minute question-and-answer session will follow.

Docter's two-day residency continues Friday with a series of workshops in the LCC Digital Media Lab, open to University of Hawaii students only:

Thursday: "The Computer Animated Film Production Process," 4 to 5 p.m.

Friday: "The Story Process, Script and Storyboards," 10 to 11 a.m.; "Animation and Performance," 1 to 2 p.m.; "Portfolios and Demo Reels," 3 to 4 p.m.

Along with John Lasseter and Andrew Stanton, Docter developed the concept and characters for the Pixar/Disney computer-animated feature film "Toy Story." He also helped write and storyboard the film and became the project's supervising animator. He also wrote the initial story treatment for "Toy Story II." Docter made his feature film directorial debut with "Monsters, Inc.," for which he also created the concept and directed.

Call Daniel Boulos, LCC digital media instructor, 455-0513. The campus is at 96-045 AlaIke in Pearl City.
