Secrets to Success

Deborah Cole Micek

To achieve financial goals,
you need to set them

One of the biggest mistakes that individuals unknowingly make in life affects their long-term financial status. It's to go aimlessly through life without ever determining specifically where they want to go.

Human nature dictates the majority of people, if left to their own devices, won't set goals until they're forced to think about their life, business or career direction. Graduation is a big wake up call for many to begin thinking about their major in college.

For some, they only think about their career direction at a less happy time -- when they're fired, laid off or down-sized. Unfortunately, when times are tough, you won't be at your optimum state of mind to think strategically. Instead, you come from a place of desperation -- thereby taking any offer that is put on the table, without objective analysis determining if it's a good decision that will give you the results you're looking for in the long-term.

Securing cash flow for your business is no different. You can't wait until you need the money to go after it. Otherwise, you'll sell yourself short, and lose money in the process.

A better way

If you're looking to reap all the profits that are rightfully yours in your business, you need a specific plan for yourself and your business. Otherwise, you'll always find yourself asking why you don't seem to have any luck.

Oprah Winfrey once said, "Luck is simply a matter of when opportunity meets preparation."

If you don't have a plan for your own life, career or business, you'll always be subject to someone else's plan. You'll wind up wandering from one direction or business venture to the next.

Contrast this aimless wandering of the average Joe to an individual named Annika Sorenstam who is very clear on what she wants.

Sorenstam was the first woman golfer in 58 years to compete on the PGA Tour. But we wouldn't know her name if she wasn't diligently preparing herself all year long.

Practicing her swing and building up her muscles was a success habit she engaged in long before she was ever invited to compete with "the big boys" on the tour.

What's possible for you this year? Where will you be in a year from now? What do you need to do to achieve a big goal?

Start devising a plan of action with your coach so you can reach your goals 10 times faster, before your competition thinks of doing it first.

Coaching corner

First steps in creating your plan to reap all the profits hidden in your business:

1) First be clear on what it is you want.
2) Next, write down exactly what you're looking to achieve.
3) Prepare yourself to achieve your goals.
4) Then diligently go after your goals, doing at least one thing every day that will help you reach your destination.
