Mason finishes second at Waikoloa

Hawaii-Hilo's Nick Mason finished second at the Taylor Made/Waikoloa Intercollegiate Tournament at the Waikoloa Beach Resort King's Course yesterday, two strokes behind champion Anthony Kim of Oklahoma.

Mason shot a 69 to finish with a three-day total of 207, 9 under par. The Vulcans finished in 15th place with a score of 875. Georgia Tech, which led after the first day, finished at 23-under-par 841 to win the tournament.

Hawaii finished 19th in the 21-team field, led by Matthew Kodama's 2-under 214.

Hawaii finds no luck in Las Vegas

The Rainbow Wahine softball team dropped two matches at the Rebel Classic in Las Vegas yesterday.

In the first game, Hawaii took a 7-3 lead into the bottom of the seventh inning, only to watch Notre Dame score five runs to win 8-7.

With two outs, Notre Dame's Kellie Middleton hit a two-run homer to end the game. Hawaii pitcher Melissa Coogan gave up 12 hits and struck out just three batters. Stacey Ritter was 3-for-4 in the loss.

Later in the day, UNLV scored the game's lone run in the top of the sixth to defeat Hawaii 1-0. Pitcher Jacqueline Kerrigan held the Rainbow Wahine to just three hits.

Hawaii (3-5) faces Portland State and Wisconsin today.

BYUH walks past Concordia: Echo Hatch threw a five-hitter and the Seasiders scored twice on bases-loaded walks as BYU-Hawaii defeated Concordia (Calif.) 4-0 in Laie.

BYUH managed just two hits off three Concordia pitchers but drew 13 walks. Hatch improved to 4-0, striking out three and walking one.

The Seasiders (4-3) lost the second game 7-3. Chynna Wilcox went 2-for-4 in the loss.

HSJGA will offer 2004 Boatwright Internship

The Hawaii State Junior Golf Association will offer a U.S. Golf Association P.J. Boatwright Internship for individuals interested in careers in golf administration.

The winner would work in HSJGA tournament operations, administration and other golf business, including on-course operations.

Golf tourney to benefit UH students

The Fourth Annual Scholarship Golf Tournament in Sun City, Nevada, will help provide scholarships to University of Hawaii students.

Sponsored by the UH Alumni and Friends Las Vegas Chapter, the May 15 game at the Palm Valley Golf Course outside Las Vegas also helps schools, senior care centers and needy children in the Las Vegas community.

The $90 tournament fee includes a round of golf, a cart and dinner. The tournament is also seeking tee sponsors.
