Golden Bears sink Hawaii in water polo
The No. 7 California Golden Bears used a five-goal second quarter to defeat No. 9 Hawaii 13-5 in a Mountain Pacific Sports Federation women's water polo match at Berkeley, Calif., last night.
Beth Novick scored four goals to lead Hawaii (2-1, 1-1). The Rainbow Wahine play defending national champion UCLA and Santa Clara today at the Stanford Invitational.
Anteaters hold off Rainbow Wahine tennis
The UC Irvine women's tennis team rallied to defeat Hawaii 4-3 at the Central Oahu Tennis Complex yesterday afternoon.
With the match tied 2-2, the Anteaters secured the win with victories from Hui Leow at No. 3 singles and Anna Bentzer at No. 1 singles.
Hawaii's Paige Mainor won her No. 4 singles match in a super-tiebreaker, defeating Christie Posner 6-4, 3-6, 11-9.
The Hawaii men's team defeated Gustavus Adolphus 7-0 yesterday in Manoa. The Rainbow Warriors improved to 2-9.
Vulcans get lucky in Vegas
UH Hilo won its first game of the year, defeating Fort Lewis 13-7 on the second day of the Las Vegas Classic in Henderson, Nev.
Trailing 6-1, Sarah Steele took the mound for the Vulcans (1-2) and held the Skyhawks to one run the rest of the game.
Behind another strong pitching performance from Echo Hatch, BYUH defeated Minnesota State-Mankato 5-1. The Seasiders (2-2) later fell to Pittsburg State 7-3.
The Seasiders play Biola today, while the Vulcans take on Longwood and Pittsburg State.
Sea Warriors split doubleheader with Seawolves
The Hawaii Pacific baseball team split a doubleheader with Sonoma State yesterday, winning 9-8 and losing 17-3 at Keehi Lagoon.
The Sea Warriors (4-3) scored the game-winning run in the seventh inning to take the first game. Kyle Stanley went 3-for-4 and drove in three runs.
In the second game, the Seawolves (4-1) broke a 3-all tie with eight runs in the fifth inning. Tyler Ward drove in all three of the HPU runs.
HPU plays another doubleheader with Sonoma State today.
