High seeds fall at Waikoloa Challenger

Third-seeded Paul Goldstein and fourth-seeded Tomas Behrend were upset in third-day action at the Hilton Waikoloa Village USTA Men's and Women's Challenger yesterday in Kohala, Hawaii.

Goldstein was defeated by fellow American Cecil Mamit 1-6, 6-3, 6-4, while Germany's Behrend fell to American Bobby Reynolds 6-3, 7-6, 6-3.

On the women's side, second-seeded Tara Snyder had to withdraw from the tournament due to a stomach virus, opening the door for third-seeded Ansley Cargill, who took down Vilmarie Castellvi, 2-6, 6-4, 6-3.

Matches continue today beginning at 10 a.m., and the tournament will run through Sunday.

UH remains winless: The UH men's tennis team was defeated by Saint Mary's 6-1 yesterday, falling to 0-7 this season under first-year head coach John Nelson.

Dalibor Ptak was the only Rainbow to win a match yesterday, defeating Rafael Lopez 6-4, 6-3 at No. 1 singles.

Hawaii will try for its first win again today against Nevada.
