His wish to fly over an active volcano fulfilled yesterday, Taylor Nay, 8, of Brandon Florida smiled from his wheel chair at the Fairmont Orchid hotel in West Hawaii. Along with his mother, Melanie DeLeon, and his brother, Spencer Nay, 6, Taylor received a Make-A-Wish Foundation ride over Puu Oo.

to fly over active volcano

KOHALA COAST, Hawaii >> Thanks to the Make-A-Wish Foundation, 8-year-old Taylor Nay, of Brandon, Fla., flew over the Puu Oo crater on Kilauea Volcano's east rift last week.

"I saw a volcano blowing lava," Taylor said following a flight in which a Blue Hawaiian helicopter picked him and his family up at the Fairmont Orchid hotel on the Kohala Coast.

"My wish came true, and we didn't even have to drive to the helicopter station," the boy said.

Make-A-Wish, Fairmont Orchid and Blue Hawaiian combined resources for Taylor, who suffers from Duchennes muscular dystrophy.

Nay was accompanied by his brother Spencer, 6, and his mother, Melanie DeLeon. His father died two years ago.

Taylor is in his "good years" now but already has difficulty getting out of bed and climbing stairs, his mother said.

"Our biggest joy is to take someone who has limited mobility and put them into a machine that has the ultimate mobility," said Blue Hawaiian's David Griffin.
