Diamonds for Ginny

Songstress Ginny Tiu celebrates 10 years of performing at the Banyan Veranda of the Sheraton Moana Surfrider Hotel with a Diamond Anniversary celebration from 6:30 to 10:30 p.m. Jan. 30.

The menu: Tiu of a Kind Appetizers, Main Recital Attraction (choice of Kauai shrimp and seafood bouillabaisse, New York steak or chicken breast stuffed with spinach and macadamia nuts) and Ginny's Concerto Dessert Sampler (tiramisu, guava mousse cake and vanilla bean ice cream). Tiu, who made her first television appearance on the Ed Sullivan Show at age 5, appeared with Elvis Presley in "GIRLS! GIRLS! GIRLS!" played at Carnegie Hall and performed for three presidents.

Her usual gig is at the Banyan Veranda from 8:30 to 10:30 p.m. Thursdays and Fridays.

Changes afoot

Kua 'Aina Sandwich Shop: The Haleiwa landmark has moved a few hundred feet down the road to a roomier site with better parking. The new location at 66-160 Kamehameha Highway (next to Wyland Galleries) seats 75 indoors and outdoors; the old restaurant could accommodate just 28.

Dixie Grill: The restaurant's two locations, on Ward Avenue and in Aiea, have begun weekend breakfast service, offering a Southern-inspired menu. Entree prices run from $7 to $12, and a children's menu is $4.95. The menu includes the Crab Shack Omelette, Country-Fried Steak and Eggs, Blueberry Double-Stuffed French Toast, Cajun Skillet Omelette, the Furthest South Loco Moco (steak and eggs) and side orders such as hash brown casserole, grits, Cajun sausage and country sausage. The Down & Dirty Dixie Bloody Mary, screwdrivers and mimosas are also on the menu. Breakfast hours are 8 a.m. to noon on Saturdays and Sundays. Call 596-8359 (Ward) or 485-CRAB (Aiea).

Fairmont Orchid: The Big Island resort has opened a sushi bar, Norio's Bar & Restaurant, with Norio Yamamoto as master sushi chef. Hours are 5:30 to 9:30 p.m. Thursdays through Mondays. The resort has also reopened Brown's Beach House, which has been renovated to include an exhibition kitchen and a delicatessen. Chef Etsuji Umezu's menu has been revamped to showcase Big Island-grown produce and seafood. Brown's is open for lunch and dinner daily. Call 800-441-1414.

Special events

Chinese New Year Buffet: Beachside Cafe at the Sheraton Moana Surfrider is offering a Chinese lunch buffet Wednesday through Saturday to celebrate the Lunar New Year. The menu includes dim sum, sweet-sour pork ribs, beef broccoli in oyster sauce, spicy eggplant with tofu and steamed fish filet with lup cheong, ginger and hot oil. Cost is $22.95, $12.75 for children. Hours are 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. 922-3111.

Francisca/Quintessa Wine Dinner: The Bay Club at the Kapalua Bay Hotel on Maui offers a five-course dinner featuring the Napa Valley wines of Franciscan Oakville Estate and Quintessa winery, 6:30 p.m. Saturday. The menu: Roasted Ono with Toasted Coconut (served with Franciscan Cuvée Sauvage 2001), Grilled Poha Berry Quail (Franciscan Magnificat 2000), Smoked Loin of Colorado Lamb (Simi Landslide Cabernet 2000), Roasted Elk Loin (Quintessa 2000) and Rosemary and Dried Cherry Creme Brulee.
