Hawaii marketing revs up in Japan

Hawaii Tourism Japan, the Dentsu unit that has started marketing Hawaii to Japanese visitors, is kicking off a subway and train station poster campaign. It will feature Hawaii ukulele star Jake Shimabukuro and will begin Jan. 26 in Tokyo and Osaka

The group, which is taking over the job from the Hawaii Visitors & Convention Bureau, is also opening an office at the Waikiki Galleria Tower by the end of this month. Kiyoko Tanji will serve as general manager for the Hawaii Liaison office, while Yumi Ozaki will serve as manager.

The essence of Dentsu's campaign is "6 islands, 6 surprises," illustrating that there's more to do in Hawaii than shop and lie on the beach.
