Abrams turns Hawaii Pacific into a winner
Aaron Abrams' chances to hurt the Yellowjackets are dwindling, so he made the most of his first opportunity this year.
Abrams hit seven 3-pointers and scored 34 points to help Hawaii Pacific put away Montana State-Billings 107-92 in the Pacific West Conference opener for both teams last night at the Blaisdell Arena.
Abrams' mates got into the act as well, helping the Sea Warriors (4-8, 1-0 PacWest) to a 19-for-27 performance beyond the arc. Marvin Noble contributed 22 points while Dante Sykes put in 19.
Trae Fortier led the Yellowjackets (6-3, 0-1) with 37 points and 13 rebounds.
Brigham Young-Hawaii 115, Western New Mexico 62: At Laie, the Seasiders started their conference season the same way they ended their preseason: with a blowout win.
The Mustangs turned the ball over 31 times and allowed BYUH's Jake Chrisman to score 27 points in 28 minutes. Shawn Opunui added 20 for the Seasiders, who have won 10 games in a row.
BYUH improved to 11-2 overall and 1-0 in the PacWest, and the Mustangs fell to 3-8 and 0-1.
