Quadmag holds
fund-raiser
DID SHE or didn't she? That was the big question as word got out that Britney Spears tied the knot last weekend in Las Vegas.
According to Associated Press reports, the 22-year-old songstress got married early Saturday morning to a guy named Jason Alexander -- no, not one of the stars from "Seinfeld," but a childhood friend who spent the holidays with Spears in Sin City.
Within hours, however, Jive Records released a statement saying the pair "took a joke too far," and paperwork was filed yesterday to annul the marriage. Guess that means I still get chance -- I could have sworn she felt the love when our eyes locked during a television taping at the Hilton Hawaiian Village back in 2000 ...
I'M HAPPY to report that local scenester Website Quadmag.com celebrates seven years of existence tonight with a fund-raiser at the Wave Waikiki. It was only a few months ago that the site's founder, Justin "TeN of Quad" Alladin and its current Webmistress, Jeela Goldberry, appealed to its members for donations after coming dangerously close to shutting down due to a lack of funds.
Luckily, disaster was avoided when a number of folks stepped up to pay Quadmag's Web hosting bill, and tonight's party will serve as a special "thank you" to the community and a showcase of local artists. Those taking part in the celebration include DJs G-Spot, ETA, G-Dog, Oliver Twist, Jedi, IKON, Archangel, Drift, Risup, Konception, Kause, Seeko, K-ing, Toki and Monkey. Also scheduled to show are Emirc, the Waikiki B-Boys, Nomasterbacks, Seph1 and members of Rebel Girl Underground.
Doors open at 10 p.m. tonight, with the showcase getting under way around 11 p.m. Ten bucks gets you in; call 941-0424, Ext. 12 for details or check out www.quadmag.com ...
AND AFTER an impressive run at Compadres, Russ Inouye and the Stone Groove Family are moving their Wednesday night "Puma Party" to Reign starting this week. Neken will perform live to start things off, followed by Stone Groove's DJ Freeze and G-Dog on the decks until 2 a.m.
Need another reason to stop by Reign tomorrow? How's about two-dollar drinks all night long? Call 349-6767 for more info about this 21-and-over party ...
