It’s a girl for Rep. Ching
just in time for New Year
State Rep. Corinne Ching received a belated Christmas gift with the birth of a daughter on Tuesday.
The baby was born at 7:04 a.m.; weighed 6 pounds, 7 ounces; and measured 1934 inches.
This is the first child for Ching (R, Nuuanu) and her husband, Dr. Stuart Lerner. They named her Anna Lauren Elizabeth Lerner.
Last month, friends and family surprised Ching, whose original due date was this Saturday, with a baby shower at the state Capitol.
Policy Solutions 101
The Flemming Leadership Institute has selected state Rep. Jon Riki Karamatsu for its fellowship training program for emerging first-term state legislators.
"I'm looking forward to learning new techniques to forge strong alliances and develop innovative policy solutions at both the state and national level," Karamatsu said.
Karamatsu (D, Waipahu- Waikele) is currently attending the first of two institutes in St. Petersburg, Fla.
The Flemming Institute was established by the Washington, D.C.-based Center for Policy Alternatives. More than 300 state legislators from all 50 states have graduated from the Flemming program.
Military aloha festivities
A host of community groups, the city and Central Oahu politicians are organizing Military Ohana Day from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at Kapiolani Park Bandstand.
"In light of the impending deployment of the 25th Infantry Division overseas, I believe it is not only fitting, but incumbent upon Hawaii's citizenry to demonstrate our appreciation," said state Rep. Marcus Oshiro, an event organizer who represents Wahiawa, where the 25th Infantry is based.
Food booths, entertainment and family activities are being planned for the event.
