Dining around the islands
Premier chefs man awards dinner
Hawaii's three James Beard Award-winning chefs -- George Mavrothalassitis, Alan Wong and Roy Yamaguchi -- will man the food stations at the 20th Annual Hale Aina awards dinner, Jan. 18 at the Hilton Hawaiian Village.
The three winners of the Best Chef of the Northwest-Hawaii award will serve the winners of Honolulu Magazine's yearly restaurant awards -- and you're invited to eat alongside them.
Also cooking that night will be chefs Roberto Los Banos (Bali-by-the-Sea), Chai Chaowasaree (Chai's Island Bistro), Donato Loperfido (Donato's Restaurant), Steven Chiang (Golden Dragon) and Rodney Uyehara (Bistro at Century Center). Island Epicure will provide an array of specialty cheeses, and premium wines will be poured. A silent auction will feature luxury trips and dining certificates.
Cost is $150 ($125 if using an American Express card), to benefit the Hala Aina Ohana, a nonprofit organization that supports the culinary arts at Hawaii's community colleges. Call 537-9500, ext. 500.
Trefethen wines featured
The wines of Trefethen Vineyards will be featured at a four-course dinner, 6:30 p.m. Jan. 14 at Indigo Eurasian Cuisine.
