Waipahu couple allegedly assault neighbors

A 38-year-old Waipahu woman and her 37-year-old boyfriend were arrested for suspicion of burglary and assault in a confrontation with their neighbors on New Year's Eve.

Police said the woman entered the apartment of a 26-year-old woman and a 28-year-old man about 11 p.m., slapped the woman and pulled off the woman's earring. The man entered the apartment and stabbed the other man with an ice pick, police said. The suspects, who live in the same apartment building at 207 Waipahu St., fled before police arrived but were later arrested.

Police described the man's injury as a superficial wound. The woman suffered a cut to her ear but her injury was not serious, police said.

HONOLULU

Man charged with burglary at UH

A 20-year-old man with a criminal record of property crimes in California was charged yesterday with a burglary early Wednesday at the University of Hawaii.

Chad Weigel is charged with second-degree burglary. His bail is $25,000.

Police said campus security officers found an unlocked door at the Marine Science Building and began a floor-to-floor search of the building. They found Weigel about 1:05 a.m. on the third floor, hiding behind a cubicle, police said.

When Weigel was arrested, he told police he was 26-year-old Charles Beavis. A check of his fingerprints revealed his true identity and further checks turned up outstanding warrants. Weigel has an additional bail of $32,646 for those warrants.

Police said there has been a rash of burglaries in the university area recently. They said Weigel has 42 prior arrests and was convicted last year for a burglary in the university area.
