Enjoy a warm, steaming bowl of good fortune just after midnight tonight at Hatsumode 2004, the annual New Year's celebration at Hawaii Kotohira Jinsha and Hawaii Dazaifu Tenmangu, Shinto shrines at 1239 Olomea St.
Hatsumode is the traditional first visit to a shrine each year, a key part of Japanese tradition.
A purification ritual begins at 11 tonight to close out the year, followed by a blessing for the new year at midnight. The celebration runs until 5 p.m. tomorrow, with hourly lion dancing. It's good luck, by the way, to have the lion bite your head.
Complimentary ozoni, mochi soup, will be served until 2 p.m.
In addition you'll be able to pick up omamori, or charms, to build on your protection for the year. Call 841-4755
Healthy soup for you
