Welcome 2004
at Aloha Tower
HOPE YOUR Christmas weekend went better than mine -- instead of spending time checking out the latest "POPular" party at Club Pauahi on Friday, or Go Jimmy Go's anniversary party on Saturday or even the last party of the year thrown by the Juicy crew on Sunday, I was stuck at home trying to get by on a diet of NyQuil and Gatorade.
Yes, this columnist managed to get sick (on Christmas day, no less) and ended up spending the entire weekend in hibernation. Let's hope I can get my batteries recharged in time to make it out for New Year's Eve ...
HAVEN'T MADE plans for tomorrow night yet? Aloha Tower Marketplace is always a favorite destination, with its spectacular view of the fireworks display that's planned. Gordon Biersch, Bikini Cantina and the Beach House will all have parties going on that are worth checking out.
If entertainment is important to you, check out Pepper at Pipeline Cafe, starting at 9 p.m. Party people 18 and over are welcome until 1 a.m., then it's 21 and over with DJ Mixmaster B in the mix until closing.
Don't want to go home until the sun comes up? Check out the Velvet Lounge's after-hours party and order yourself a Bloody Mary once their bar reopens at 6 a.m. ...
ROLL CALL: At least I wasn't sick when Jackie Chan's new restaurant, Jackie's Kitchen, celebrated its grand opening in Ala Moana Center with a blessing last week. Spotted in the restaurant enjoying pupus and drinks were KHNL's Cindy Paliracio, KITV's Gary Sprinkle and Pamela Young, KSSK's Sweetie Pacarro and Island 98.5's Makani.
Also on hand that evening were bounty hunter Duane "Dog" Chapman, former Miss Hawaii Traci Toguchi, mayoral candidate Mufi Hannemann, the Honolulu Fire Department's Kenison Tejada and Carole Kai ...
THIS SUNDAY, head over to the Wave Waikiki for the first CD release party of 2004 with local hip-hop artist Emirc. His latest album, "Rhyme and Punishment," is in stores now.
Joining Emirc at the Wave is DJ Babu, of the Beat Junkies and Dilated Peoples. Fellow Dilated Peoples member Rakaa will also be on hand to emcee the 18-and-over party. Doors open at 9 p.m. Sunday night, and $10 gets you through the door. Call 941-0424, ext. 12, for more info ...
THAT'S IT for this year -- party hard but party safe tomorrow night, and I'll see you in 2004!
