Isle group taking gifts for family of killed boy
The Visitor Aloha Society of Hawaii is accepting donations on behalf of the family of 3-year-old Ryker Hamilton, who died Thursday from head injuries during a whale-watching excursion.

Ikeda said a spokesman for the family told her "what they really need is prayers to get them through this."
Checks may be made to Ryan and Rennee Hamilton c/o VASH, 2168 Kalia Road, Honolulu 96815. The Aloha Society can be reached at 926-8274.
State lowering level of Wahiawa Reservoir
The state Department of Land and Natural Resources will be working with the Dole Food Co. to drop the water level in the Wahiawa Reservoir.
The current water depth is 80.3 feet above the original stream bed. Over the next three to four weeks, the water level will be gradually reduced to the desired level of 72.5 feet.
Area residents will not see a sudden drop in the lake level. Downstream communities may notice water flow in the Kaukonahua stream.
Lake Wilson is currently brown from silt runoff, a natural condition after the recent heavy rainfall.
ACT test set for Feb. 7 for high school kids
The next national American College Testing assessment test date for college-bound students is Feb. 7; registration forms must be postmarked by Friday.
The late registration deadline is Jan. 16, with an additional fee charged. Registration packets can be obtained from high school guidance counselors.
Students can also register online at www.act.org, which also has sample test questions and a link to a free financial aid calculator. The test fee is $26.
ACT scores are accepted by virtually all colleges and universities in the nation. The test measures a student's academic achievement in English, reading, math and science.
Colleges use ACT scores, along with a student's high school grade point average and other information, to help determine admissions and course placement for new students.

Pileup in Kalihi injures 11, 1 critically
Eleven people were injured, one critically and 10 seriously, after a multiple car accident yesterday near the intersection of Likelike Highway and Kalihi Street.
Emergency Medical Services said the incident, which occurred at about 5 p.m., involved at least seven vehicles. Fire crews were called to the scene to extract a person pinned in a vehicle.
Likelike Highway between Kamehameha IV Road and School Street was closed in both directions for hours yesterday as investigators determined what caused the crash. Traffic was diverted during the closure.
The circumstances of the accident were not available yesterday, as investigators were still on the scene last night. But police confirmed that there was at least one head-on collision, and an EMS official said the accident looked to involve a pileup.
The critically injured patient, along with four people in serious condition, were taken to the Queen's Medical Center.
Two people each, all in serious condition, were taken to Kapiolani, St. Francis and Kuakini medical centers.
Officials said it was not raining when the accident occurred.
