Yen may keep rising
TOKYO >> The yen was headed for a winning week in Asia after overseas investors were net buyers of Japanese shares last week and industrial production rose in November for a third month, signs Japan's economy is growing.
Industrial production increased by 0.8 percent in November from October, the Ministry of Economy, Trade Industry said in Tokyo, less than the 2 percent median gain forecast by 26 economists in a Bloomberg News survey. Foreign investors bought $1.8 billion more shares than they sold in the week that ended Dec. 19, Ministry of Finance figures showed.
"Overseas investors continue to buy stocks given the promising outlook of Japan's economy," said Minoru Shioiri, foreign exchange manager at Mitsubishi Securities Co., a unit of Japan's third-biggest bank. "The yen will continue to rise."
