Hemmenbach's goal lifts HPU

Hawaii Pacific White won the Topper Men's Island Soccer Organization championship match yesterday by defeating Lanikai Tuesday 2-1 in overtime at the Waipio Peninsula Soccer Park Stadium.

Lanikai took an early lead when Mark Mench scored five minutes into the match. HPU tied it with 10 minutes left in the first half on a goal by Adolfo Gentil.

Then, one minute into overtime, Jimmi Hemmenbach dribbled through four Lanikai defenders and beat goalkeeper Josh Fouts with a low shot to give HPU the Division I title.

In the Division II showdown, Kahekili beat Aloha Amazon 2-1 in overtime.
