Two new security check lanes opened at the Honolulu Airport yesterday, bringing the number of lanes leading to passenger gates to 17, the state Department of Transportation announced yesterday.
The lanes are behind the Japan Airlines check-in counters and will be used at peak times of the day.
Five new lanes opened in July, including two at the interisland terminal and three on the international side.
Transportation Department Director Rodney Haraga said the new lanes will help with the Christmas travel rush.
"Our state airports are the first and last thing visitors will experience about Hawaii," he said. "We need to make it as pleasant an airport experience as possible so our visitors come back to the islands."
