Mail letters early to get
North Pole’s postmark
Star-Bulletin staff
The U.S. Postal Service says parents should mail their children's letters to Santa's North Pole workshop early so that "his response" will return in time for Christmas, complete with a North Pole postmark.
To get the North Pole stamp on a "Dear Santa" wish list, craft a letter from Santa to a child and place it in an envelope. Then, put that envelope into a larger, properly stamped envelope and mail it to: North Pole Christmas Cancellation/Postmaster, 5400 Mail Trail, Fairbanks, AK 99709-9998.
The North Pole Post Office will postmark Santa's reply and place it in the mail stream. Letters must arrive in Fairbanks before Dec. 15 to make it back to Hawaii by Dec. 25.
Residents interested in getting the North Pole postmark on greeting cards should mail their letters to the same address.
The North Pole Post Office began issuing cancellations in 1953. Last year, more than 600,000 letters were sent to the Fairbanks for its landmark postmark.
