Tourist from California drowns in Kauai stream
A 56-year-old California man drowned yesterday after he was swept into a stream while hiking near the Wailua Homesteads on Kauai.The man was hiking with his son at about 3:30 p.m. when they crossed a bridge over a swollen stream.
When water ran over the bridge, both men were swept into the water.
The son was unharmed.

Kalihi pair in hospital after being hit by car
A 52-year-old woman and 65-year-old man were taken to the Queen's Medical Center in critical condition after they were struck by a car at 9:20 p.m. Friday at North School and Amelia streets.The man and woman from Kalihi had head injuries and possible internal injuries from the collision, police said.
The driver, a 25-year-old man, wasn't injured.
He was traveling east on North School Street in the right lane approaching Amelia Street when the pedestrians crossed from the north toward the south shoulder outside of a crosswalk in front of the car, police said.
Man held in alleged robbery and assault
Honolulu police arrested a man Friday for allegedly robbing another man near Ahana Street and then running over him with a car.The incident occurred on Nov. 16, when a man attempted to pursue someone who had stolen from him.
Police said the suspect then assaulted the victim and ran over him with a car.
The suspect was arrested at his home Friday afternoon, police said.
OCCC escapee caught at his old workplace
A 41-year-old man who escaped from Oahu Community Correctional Center last month was arrested Friday at his old workplace.The man left the facility on a furlough pass Nov. 20 and never returned.
Correctional center personnel contacted police about the escape and the man was found at his last furlough work assignment.
