The Bloomberg Honolulu Star-Bulletin Index is a price-weighted index designed to measure the performance of Hawaii-based companies. The index was developed with a base value of 100 as of December 31, 1999. A chart of the index which shows the weekly performance of its members is published weekly in the Honolulu Star-Bulletin.

Barnwell surges
Barnwell Industries Inc., which has oil and gas operations in Alberta, Canada, and a development partnership on the Big Island, surged 18.1 percent to a 13-year high of $30 this week to lead the way in the Bloomberg Honolulu Star-Bulletin index.
Maui Land & Pineapple Co. posted the next best effort with a 2.5 percent rise. The single-digit move was enough to double the company's stock gain for the year to 102.6 percent. MLP's shares closed yesterday at an all-time high of $32.09.
Hawaiian Airlines parent Hawaiian Holdings Inc. trailed the field with a 13.1 percent loss, but the stock is up 17.2 percent in 2003 despite the parent being in Chapter 11 bankruptcy.
