I guess it's all a matter of timing -- that, and a more suitable venue. After an earlier last-minute announcement and just-as-quick cancellation, Prince will, in fact, be doing a couple of shows both here and on Maui. His Honolulu show will be at the Blaisdell Arena on Dec. 16; the Maui Arts & Cultural Center show will take place on Dec. 19. Tickets go on sale Saturday for both concerts. Honolulu prices range from $50, $70 and $80, available at the arena's box office, all Ticketmaster outlets and all Foodland locations, as well as online at ticketmaster. com and charge-by-phone at 877-750-4400. Maui tickets will be going for $50, $65 and $75 and will be available at the center's box office or charge-by-phone at 808-242-7469.
String fling
Ring in December with an evening of classical and jazz music with guitarist Jeff Peterson. Peterson will be the guest artist at the Chamber Music Hawaii Tresemble Concert 7:30 p.m. Monday at Paliku Theatre on the campus of Windward Community College in Kaneohe. A repeat performance will be held at 7:30 p.m. Dec. 8 at the Doris Duke Theatre at the Honolulu Academy of Arts. Tickets are $10-$20. For information, call 524-0815, ext. 245.
Time to give
Tomorrow is the biggest shopping day of the year and a time to buy those Christmas gifts. Don't forget to pick up something for the Lokahi Tree. Each person donating a gift will receive a "Wish Upon a Star" button that entitles them to 20 percent dining discounts at the Pacific Beach Hotel's Shogun, Oceanarium and Neptune's Garden restaurants. A starfish will also be hung on the hotel's underwater "Wishes Come True" Lokahi Tree. The Lokahi opening will begin with caroling at 7 p.m. tomorrow in the hotel's main lobby.
