John McLaughlin works on a gingerbread version of Iolani Palace for the One Fas Lube team, competing in the Easter Seals' Gingerbread Festival two years ago.

Gingery moments

The sweetest ticket in town next weekend will be for the 4th Annual Gingerbread Festival, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Dec. 7 at the Blaisdell Exhibition Hall.

The yearly benefit for Easter Seals Hawaii -- co-sponsored by chef Alan Wong -- is a perpetual sellout, but some tickets remain.

Napoleon's Bakery is providing the gingerbread and icing -- you and your kid(s) provide the creative stimulus and nimble fingers. Choose from a 7-by-8-by-8-inch finished house for $29 or a 9-by-10-by-10-inch house for $49. Kits include pre-baked gingerbread pieces, icing and pastry bags, candies and a reserved space for two hours to assemble the house.

To reserve a space, call 536-1015.

A corporate team competition begins at 4 p.m.

Volunteers are needed to help cut and package the gingerbread on the day of the event and to help with setup, decorating and check-in. Call Jennifer Willing at 536-1015 for a volunteer form.

Money raised supports the Sultan Early Intervention Program and Youth Services Program at Easter Seals.

Similar events will be held Dec. 14 at the Honpa Hongwanji Hilo Betsuin Sangha Hall on the Big Island (call 808-961-3081) and at Kukui Grove on Kauai (808-245-7141).

A Tuscan evening

Resource Central, a nonprofit organization that helps other nonprofits raise money, is holding its first fund-raising event, "Christmas in Tuscany," 6 to 9 p.m. Dec. 7 at Café Sistina.

Chef Sergio Mitrotti will prepare a traditional four-course Tuscan menu. Cost is $125 ($80 is tax-deductible).

The evening will include a live auction, including a chance to bid on a trip to Tuscany, art objects and fine jewelry.

For reservations, call Sharon Miyashita at 521-4511, ext. 3, or e-mail smiyashita@resourcecentral.org. Or, mail checks with the notation "Christmas in Tuscany" to Resource Central, Waterfront Plaza, 500 Ala Moana, Suite 7-240, Honolulu 96813-4900. Make checks payable to RCUH Resource Central. Visa and MasterCard are also welcome.

Resource Central is a direct project of The Research Corporation of the University of Hawaii. Its mission is to assist Hawaii's nonprofits in increasing and maintaining their existence through local and national resources.
