George Clooney
as Magnum???

Imagine Entertainment will not confirm if actor George Clooney will star as Thomas Magnum in the studio's "Magnum, P.I.," the movie version of the popular '80s series, since the script by Michael McCullen isn't finished. But that's the buzz in some Hollywood circles. All Imagine execs are saying is that Clooney hasn't been signed. Clooney's publicist says the actor denies the rumors.

It's safe to say that Tom Selleck will not be playing the lead role, and may not even be in the film, nor his three TV co-stars, or if the film will be shot in Hawaii at all. The studio expects a completed script in two months when a director and star will be signed -- that could mean a spring production start date.

Universal Pictures picked up the movie rights, with Imagine's chairman Brian Grazer co-producing. No word on the tone of the film, but don't be surprised if it's heavy on comedy. That's because screenwriter McCullers wrote the last two Austin Powers sequels. ...

Contrary to what was noted here in last week's column, there will be Honolulu press junkets come January for Warner Bros.' "The Big Bounce" and Adam Sandler's "50 First Dates." The latter junket is being rescheduled Jan. 5 to 6 because of difficulty getting accommodations, what with the Sony Open golf tournament in full swing at the same time. ...

In the upcoming Ben Stiller pic, "Along Came Polly" (the trailer is available online at the movie's Web site), filming was done at Kualoa Ranch's Secret Island, Dillingham Field, a Turtle Bay Resort bungalow and along Farrington Highway. ...

The Fox television series "Cops" has completed eight weeks of filming on Maui for shows expected to air in January. The two-man crew spent eight-hour shifts with patrol officers in Kihei, Wailuku and Lahaina. Scenes will include the capture of an alleged motorcycle thief and ice user, and vice officers being lowered from a helicopter by rope and harness into sugar cane fields and forests on marijuana eradication missions. ...

Documentary producer Stephanie Castillo and former Restaurant Row film programmer Don Brown will hold a kickoff party 5:30 p.m. Dec. 7 at the Row Bar for "Hawaii Reel Stories," a half-hour program for Oceanic Cable 16. The weekly show premieres Apr. 19 for a six-week run. Shows will focus on Hawaii's film scene and include an 8 to 10 minute feature story, plus several smaller segments like "Work in Progress," "Island Profile" and a "Point of View" editorial.
