‘Pleasure’ had touchy,
but no feely

ONE of the two actresses in playwright Ed Sakamoto's "Obake" pulled off a ghost-like move of her own. She was summarily called up by the military, and was gone, just like that ... Gone, too, is the Lizard Loft's production of local playwright Eric Yokomori's "Pleasure," which has completed its run at ARTS at Mark's Garage. It was something of a masturbatory nightmare with little pleasure -- an ironic title, perhaps. Nobody ends up in bed, but not from dreaming about it, including a 16-year-old incontinent boy and his horny 16-year old girlfriend (who gives it the old high school try), one father and daughter and another father/son, later to become mother/son and sniveling grandpa and his TV set. It sounds funnier than it was ...

MARYKNOLL School art students are looking at teacher Brad Koki with a new appreciation. He's one of 50 artists in Hawaii selected to participate in the annual Nikakai Japan art exhibit held at the Tokyo Metropolitan Art Museum. His work, he admits, started "without an idea." Koki not only teaches at Maryknoll, he's a 1971 graduate of the school ...

P&P on NBC

IT was a day off from work for Clear Channel's Jamie Hartnett Sunday, but she was drawn to her TV when she kept hearing "Perry and Price," a client of hers. But alas, this was the NBC Sports presentation of the President's Cup golf tournament from South Africa that pits the U.S. against international golf teams, and what she was viewing was the U.S.'s Kenny Perry vs. South Africa's Nick Price. The announcers kept referring to "Perry and Price" during their play. And while Michael W. Perry might have felt it was in keeping with his partner, Larry Price, Hartnett was amused with Nick Price who was so upset in missing his last putt that he bent his putter in half ...

THERE'LL be a big downtown lunchtime party at King and Bishop fronting the Bank of Hawaii on Dec. 4. It'll celebrate the Great Aloha Run's 20th anniversary. Performing for those who show up will be race co-founder Carole Kai, Nohelani Cypriano, Sonya Mendes and Tino. The culinary arts department from Kapiolani Community College is baking a gigantic birthday cake which should serve everyone attending the party. So bring a brown bag lunch and save room for dessert ...

THE UH Warrior football team will celebrate its winning season Dec. 7 at the Sheraton Waikiki. Head coach June Jones will join staffers and special guests among the fans who'll be attending that evening. Special guest speaker is a guy who's had a great year in the NFL so far this year, Kansas City Chiefs special teams coach Frank Gansz ...

On the Road Again

WHAT a coup for "Ohana Road," the Hawaii automotive TV magazine! It won the Gold Medallion for best automotive entertainment TV show at the International Automotive Media Awards ceremony at Sardi's in New York. Indy 500 winner Danny Sullivan presented the award to show producer Bill Maloney who created the show and sold it to Cutter Family Auto Centers as the title sponsor ...
