During last year's Keiki Christmas at the Honolulu Academy of Arts, Keilani Robinson gave her younger sister Michelle a bit of advice as to what to ask Santa for Christmas. The academy offers a similar holiday program this season, on Dec. 7. It will include a performance of "The Littlest Angel," a storytelling Santa, musical performances and make-and-take crafts.

Deaf Santa celebration

Parades

"All Creatures Great and Small"

Kaneohe's annual Christmas Parade takes place on Kamehameha Highway between Haiku Road and Kaneohe Bay Drive, beginning at 9 a.m. Dec. 6, with marching bands, equestrian units, floats and more. Call Art Machado at 845-4111 for details.

Hawaii Kai Christmas Parade
Starts at the corner of Lunalilo Home Road and Hawaii Kai to Koko Marina Center, 10 to 11:30 a.m. Saturday, with a vintage automobile substituting for Santa's sleigh. A speedboat will pick up the jolly fellow at Moanalua Bay and take him to the Koko Marina dock. Festivities include angel ornament crafts, a ride on the Santa Express train, Christmas caroling, holiday photos and more. Visit www.Kokomarinacenter.com.


Tree Lighting

Market City Shopping Center
A 32-foot Santa Claus will be inflated during tree lighting festivities beginning at 6:30 p.m. Dec. 2, with entertainment by Danny Couch at 7:15 p.m. Additional parking will be available at Kaimuki High School. Call 734-0282.

Festival of Trees
Local personalities decorate miniature Christmas trees to be auctioned off in the silent auction. Handmade gifts and art collection items will also be available from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Dec. 5 and 6, and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Dec. 7, at Ward Warehouse, Second Floor, Kakaako and Kewalo Rooms. A $1 donation is suggested. Children under 12 are free. Call 547-4397.

Candy Cane Lane
Bishop Museum's lawn will be transformed into Santa's workshop with Christmas tress and giant candy canes, on view 5:30 to 9 p.m. Dec. 12, 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Dec. 13 and 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Dec. 14. Keiki can make crafts ranging from ornaments and pottery to Hawaiian crafts. Other highlights include candy making, bouncers, free train rides and visits with Santa. Admission is $3, plus nominal fees for make-and-take crafts. Call 847-3511.

Christmas auction
A live and silent auction will be staged by Kaneohe Rotary to benefit the Hawaii Rotary Youth Foundation and the Rotary International Foundation, 6 p.m. Dec. 2 at Pohai Nani -- Ruth Orcutt Bacon Auditorium. Tickets are $50. Call 263-4016.

Gingerbread Festival
Chef Alan Wong and Easter Seals host the fourth annual Gingerbread Festival, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Dec. 7 at Neal Blaisdell Exhibition Hall. Call 536-1015.

Jingle Bell Express

Keiki Christmas Party
The event at the Honolulu Academy of Arts includes "The Littlest Angel" performance, an adaptation of the holiday classic by Parasol Puppets, storytelling Santa, musical performances and make-and-take art activities, 1 to 4:30 p.m. Dec. 7. Keiki can decorate their own Christmas trees with an angel topper. Admission is free but a ticket is required. Call 532-8700.

Lunch with Santa
The Old Spaghetti Factory Showroom will be home to the magic of Carlos da Silva II and more, noon to 12:30 p.m. Dec. 6, 7, 13, 14, 20 and 21. Call 591-2513.

Pa'ina with Santa
Dinner with Santa will feature a Hawaiian dinner plate, hands-on arts and crafts, G-rated Christmas movies and more, 4 to 10 p.m. Dec. 12 at Boys and Girls Club Hawaii, Spaulding Clubhouse, 1704 Waiola St. The cost is $7. Call Kuulei at 955-1986 or Lei at 942-4111.

Pearlridge Express
Climb aboard a scale-model, fully functioning locomotive. Children under 48 inches can ride the train and journey through a yuletide candy land. Cost is $3 per ride. A portion of the proceeds will benefit the Hawaiian Railway Society. Call 488-0981.

Santa's Light Parade
Festive floats and young performers join Santa as he rides his 40-foot illuminated train through Ala Moana Center from Macy's to Sears. Free. Call 955-9517.

The Star of Bethlehem: The Magi's Story
Imaginarium program at Windward Community College, 45-720 Keaahala Road, offers theories of what the three wise men might have seen in the sky in ancient times. Star-gazer shows take place 7 and 8 p.m. Dec. 5 and 12, 7 and 8 p.m. Dec. 13, 19 and 20, with an 11 a.m. program also on Dec. 20. Admission is $5 for adults, $3 for children under 12 and $4 for UH and military. Call 235-7433 for information and reservations.

Santa breakfast fund-raiser coming

Join Santa Claus and his friends at Prevent Child Abuse Hawaii's 17th annual "Breakfast with Santa" fund-raiser taking place Dec. 13 and 14 at the Japanese Cultural Center Manoa Grand Ballroom, 2454 S. Beretania St.

Two seatings will be offered both days, with breakfast from 8:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. and lunch from noon to 2 p.m.

In addition to an abundance of food and Santa's appearance, there will be clowns, face painting, games and crafts, entertainment featuring Monty's Magic Theater and costumed characters like Winnie-the-Pooh, Mickey Mouse, Barney and Bugs Bunny, plus a Christmas gift for all. Admission is a $17 donation. Children under 2 are admitted free.

The goal of the event is to raise $35,000 for child abuse prevention programs as the number of confirmed child abuse cases in Hawaii has tripled over the past 20 years. As many as 40,000 to 50,000 children might be abused or neglected each year in Hawaii, with only 10 percent reported to the state Child Welfare Services.
