[ TURNING POINT ]
Army fumbles hopes into Hawaii end zone
There is nothing more demoralizing than a steady, effective march that ends in defeat inches from the goal. Army suffered that fate last night during its 59-28 loss at Hawaii.
After getting first downs on six consecutive plays, the Black Knights found themselves on the Hawaii 2-yard line. Yes, Army trailed 31-0 already. But it was midway through the second quarter, and a touchdown here would keep the Cadets' hopes for an upset alive.
But after a short pass from Zac Dahman to William White put the ball inside the 1, those hopes were quickly dashed.
Dahman tried to dive into the end zone, ball first. Although it appeared he crossed the plane with the football, the officials ruled a fumble when UH linebacker Chad Kalilimoku knocked the ball loose.
Hawaii recovered the ball and took over at its 20-yard line, and the rout continued.

Shula bringing Tide back to the islands
Hawaii hosts Alabama (4-8) on Saturday at Aloha Stadium, and the Warriors hope the Crimson Tide will still be hung over from yesterday's loss to rival Auburn.
Alabama fell 28-23 to the Tigers to add another disappointment in an uninspired season.
The Tide beat UH here 21-16 in the first meeting between the schools last year.
Alabama first-year coach Mike Shula is no stranger to the islands. The son of legendary Miami Dolphins coach Don Shula quarterbacked the Crimson Tide to a 24-3 victory over USC in the 1985 Aloha Bowl.
