for Peggy Chun
at Compadres


More than 200 people packed Compadres Tuesday to pay tribute to artist Peggy Chun, who has Lou Gehrig's disease but remains totally upbeat. The luncheon raised $32,000 to help Peggy. Love for Peggy filled the room as she was inducted into Compadres Wall of Fame by Compadres owner Rick Enos, who underwrote much of the luncheon cost, and Peggy's son Eric, as Peggy's husband Elroy beamed proudly. Well known for her charitable works over the years, Peggy could not attend the party as she was hospitalized for surgery. But Eric played a tape she made, sending love to everyone at the event and thanking Rick, whose idea it was to put her on the Wall of Fame. Keola Beamer, his mom Nona, wife Moana, Jennifer Oyama and Kaliko Beamer Trapp, Nona's hanai son, put on delightful Hawaiian show. Mike Buck served as emcee and auctioneer of items that were snapped up ...

Helping the kids

Frank DeLima is the guest star, Jan Brenner is emcee and Marty McClain is auctioneer for the dinner-auction for Adult Friends for Youth Friday, 4:45 p.m. at the Sheraton Waikiki. There will be both live and silent auctions. Some of the things up for bid include a golf outing for three with June Jones at Luana Hills, an annual pass for two for Consolidated Amusement Theatres, jewelry, art, hotel stays and dining certificates from many eateries. A reception for Kevin Garvin, author of the Neiman Marcus Cookbook, will be held in the store's Mariposa restaurant 5 to 8 p.m. Monday. Call 948-7575 for reservations. Garvin will be in the Epicure department noon to 2 p.m. on Tuesday to sign copies of the book that Oprah Winfrey selected as one of her Top 10 holiday items ... Paintings by Hiroshi Tagami and Michael Powell will be shown today and tomorrow at La Pietra. The exhibit will also serve as a 75th birthday celebration for Hiroshi. Paintings will be on sale from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. ... Carolyn Bosanko, a Longhi's hostess, is the model for new brochures for the Lodge at Koele and the Manele Bay Hotel that will be styled by Amos Kotomori ...

Essoyans mark 50th

Roy and Betsey Essoyan marked their 50th anniversary Sunday with a lively dinner at Le Guignol. They were married in Kawaiahao Church on Nov. 16, 1953, shortly after they met, while Roy was with the Associated Press and Betsey Biggs was reporting for the Star-Bulletin. After a career overseas with AP, Roy retired here in 1985. One of the Essoyans' four children, Susan, is following in their footsteps as a reporter at the Star-Bulletin ... Congratulations to Michael and Estelle Green who celebrated their 25th anniversary last Saturday by renewing their wedding vows during a party at the home of their daughter Lani Jennings ... Tracy Bradley of Coldwell Banker had a birthday Sunday and is having lengthy celebrations, she said with a big smile ... Ruth's Chris G.M. Paul Ah Cook has been named operations director for Randy Schoch's Desert Island Restaurants, which has the Ruth's franchises here, and on Maui in Lahaina and Wailea ...
