Oahu residents cut water consumption
Oahu residents decreased water consumption by almost 7 million gallons per day during the week of Nov. 13 to 19.
The island's overall water consumption fell to 153 million gallons per day, compared with 160 million gallons the week before, according to Honolulu Board of Water Supply statistics released yesterday.
Board officials said wet weather over the past week contributed to the decrease in consumption.
But they asked that residents continue to comply with voluntary restrictions released earlier this year, pointing to lower consumption figures last year at this time.
Board officials had set a goal of a 10 percent water-use decrease in early August, when they asked consumers to voluntarily restrict their irrigation and landscape watering to three days a week before 10 a.m. or after 6 p.m.
