Giving begins here

The Opihi Pickers, CK & Co. and John Cruz will provide music for the Hawaii Bone Marrow donor registry drive from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. tomorrow at the Bose Entertainment Center at Ward Warehouse.

It only takes 15 minutes to be tested, registered and give a small blood sample. Stop by the donor registry booth to sign up. Free food samples and prizes will be offered as well.

Gov to sign ornaments

C.S. Wo will be hosting an ornament signing event from 3 to 4 p.m. Sunday, featuring the 2003 Washington Place ornament.

Gov. Linda Lingle will be signing the ornaments, which will be available for $15 plus tax. Proceeds from the sales will benefit the Washington Place Foundation, dedicated to restoring the former governor's residence.

C.S. Wo is also collaborating with Neiman Marcus on "At Home for the Holidays," a display of holiday table settings by the likes of Versace, Havilland and J.L. Couquet (Lalique), that will be on display at C.S. Wo Gallery, 702 S. Beretania St., from tomorrow through Dec. 7.

May force be with you

Paul Dong will give a talk on "Qi Gong of the Empty Force," from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. tomorrow and Sunday at One Kalakaua Senior Living, at 1314 Kalakaua Ave.

The empty force is regarded as one of the highest martial arts skills, allowing masters to defend themselves without making physical contact with an opponent.

Dong was tutored by grandmaster Yu Yong Nian, of Beijing, who is currently an advisor to the American-Chinese Qi Gong Association.

The cost of the workshop is $150 for both days or $80 for one day. Call 375-5845.

Nabors, friends return

Tickets are on sale for the holiday production of "Merry Christmas with Friends and Nabors," being staged by Jim Nabors at 7:30 p.m. Dec. 5 to 7 at the Hawaii Theatre. The friends include Jimmy Borges, Karen Keawehawaii and Emma Veary and more.

Tickets are $45, $55 and $75 with discounts for children 17 and younger, 62 and older, and military, available at the theater box office at 1130 Bethel St. or by phone at 528-0506.

Artful decor

The Contemporary Museum is offering a way to become more knowledgeable about making art purchases, by staging an "Art Talk" presentation and discussion on professional practices for artists and on collecting art, 6 to 9 p.m. today at the museum's First Hawaiian Center (999 Bishop St.) satellite.

The talk is free although reservations are required. Call 526-1322.

The talk is a prelude to the museum's "Art Sale 2003," featuring work by Honolulu's emerging artists.

The sale will run from noon to 4 p.m. Sunday at 2411 Makiki Heights Drive. Museum admission is $3 for adults and $2 for students and seniors.

Protea Festival

Windward Mall Center Court plays host to a Protea Festival from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. today and tomorrow, with flowers from Maui and the Big Island.

Additional events tomorrow include a craft fair and plant sale, including sales of popular rose baskets, bouquets, table-top arrangements, wreaths and more.
