Art auction, sale
opens downtown
The Hawaii Consortium for the Arts and Koa Gallery have partnered to present a benefit sale and exhibition dubbed "The Downtown Art Show."
More than 250 original works of art by 100 artists will be featured. The artists represent a who's who on the local art scene, including new and veteran artists such as Kaili Chun, Peggy Chun, Pegge Hopper, Shirley Hasenyager, Linda Hess, Timothy Ojile, Louis Pohl, Murray Turnbull, Maui's George Allan, Kauai's A. Kimberlin Blackburn, and Cora Yee, who created the poster for the event. A detail of her "Pineapple Chair" is shown above.

The exhibition at the Exhibit Space at 1132 Bishop St. opens today with an auction from 5 to 8 p.m. Auction tickets are $150 (admits two), and the buyer is allowed to make one selection from the event's designated works. Couples may pay $30 to enjoy the reception, which offers wine, refreshments and music; individual admission is $20.
The sale offers a rare opportunity to acquire original artwork at reasonable prices. The show will continue from 6:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. Mondays through Fridays and 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturdays through Dec. 19.
The Hawaii Consortium for the Arts is a private, nonprofit arts service and advocacy organization.
