Stuffs
A preview of movies opening this weekend:
"Dr. Seuss' The Cat in the Hat": You know the story: Sally and her brother Conrad (Dakota Fanning and Spencer Breslin) are left home on a rainy day and are rowdily entertained by a mysterious man-size cat (Mike Myers). The problem is, Mom (Kelly Preston) has left strict instructions that the house remain spotless while she and Dad (Alec Baldwin) are away. Bo Welch directs the colorful adaptation of the children's book, and Brian Grazer produces his second Seuss project, the first being "How the Grinch Stole Christmas" with Jim Carrey. (PG)
"Gothika": Halle Berry plays Dr. Miranda Grey, a criminal psychologist who wakes up a patient in her own hospital, with no memory of supposedly murdering her husband. As she tries to regain her memory and convince her co-workers of her innocence, a vengeful spirit uses her as an earthly pawn -- which only further convinces all involved of her guilt and her descent into madness and delusion. Robert Downey Jr. plays a colleague, and Penelope Cruz a fellow inmate. Parisian director-writer-actor Mathieu Kassovitz (he played the photo booth-obsessed love interest in "Amélie") makes his American debut. (R)
