Lingle joins governors’
committee on education


The National Governors Association named Gov. Linda Lingle to its Education, Early Childhood and Workforce Committee. She joins 13 other governors on the committee chaired by Florida Gov. Jeb Bush.

The committee will handle legislative and regulatory issues related to the federal Head Start program, Individuals with Disabilities Act, Higher Education Act, No Child Left Behind Act and Workforce Investment Act.

Lingle was also named to the NGA's committee on Long-term Health Care.

3 local unions support Dean for president

The Hawaii Chapter of the International Union of Painters and Allied Trades has endorsed former Vermont Gov. Howard Dean for president.

The IUPAT's announcement came on the same day the Service Employees International Union and the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees, AFL-CIO, also endorsed the Democratic candidate.
