Diamond Head fire brought under control
A fire on Diamond Head yesterday afternoon burned about five acres of dry brush above Diamond Head Road near the lighthouse, a fire department spokesman said. Twelve firefighters fought the blaze, which was contained by 2:15 p.m. and threatened no structures.

Van crashes and kills driver near university
A 78-year-old driver died yesterday morning after he veered into a concrete median while driving westbound on the H-1 freeway near the University Avenue onramp.The man was driving a 2002 Honda Odyssey van in the freeway's left lane when the accident occurred. Witnesses told police that the man slumped over the wheel just before the impact at about 9 a.m.
He was taken to the Queen's Medical Center in critical condition and was later pronounced dead. There were no other passengers in the van.
Pedestrian in hospital after being hit by SUV
A 58-year-old woman driving a sport utility vehicle east on Koapaka Street struck a 49-year-old man Friday evening, police said.The man was taken to the Queen's Medical Center, where he was listed in critical condition yesterday. The accident occurred at about 7:20 p.m. at the intersection of Koapaka and Paiea streets. Police said the man was not in a crosswalk when he was hit.
The driver of the SUV was uninjured.
Armed man allegedly assaults female driver
A man with a handgun allegedly jumped into a woman's car early yesterday morning, took her to an unspecified location and sexually assaulted her, police said.The 23-year-old Nuuanu woman was driving in Downtown Honolulu at about 5 a.m. when the man entered her vehicle. Police could not say on what street the woman was driving or where she was taken when the incident occurred.
