Kapolei, Baldwin
bowlers start strong

HILO >> Kapolei leads the boys team standings and is within striking distance of Baldwin in the girls race after the first day of the Hawaii High School Athletic Association Billy Tees State Bowling Tournament.
Maui's Malia Baldovi -- who ended the day by rolling a 226 game -- led Kapolei's Shaina Camate by seven pins in the individual girls standings yesterday.
In boys action, Moanalua's Cy Hiyane led the field, but Kapolei's Kananiomau Villa and Kevin Soriano were running 2-3 heading into today's action.
Pearl City's Jared Hayashi had the day's high game of 269.
In the boys race, Mililani, Moanalua and home-lane-advantage schools Waiakea and Hilo checked in behind Kapolei.
Kapolei, Hawaii Baptist, Pearl City and Waiakea trailed Baldwin in the girls standings after day one.
The tournament is scheduled to conclude today at Hilo Lanes.
