That Tiffany touch
is evident in Duke’s ring

CHRIST looked over the jewelry in the Doris Duke collection at the Honolulu Academy of Arts the other day. That would be Michael Christ, Tiffany Group V.P., stopping off in Honolulu on business. He went there specifically to see two stunning Tiffany pieces on display -- a pendant watch of diamonds, emeralds and platinum from 1900, and a large emerald-cut diamond set in platinum from 1935. The latter piece comes with a story: Duke lost it at a Bridge party and figured it was lost forever. Then she was shocked when a friend retrieved and returned the ring to a grateful Duke. Christ commented on the ring, "I was amazed by the ease with which this ring moves from the 1930s to the present moment." He added, "The simple elegance of the cut and the setting are timeless -- a hallmark of a Tiffany ring." He might well also be assessing what that ring would sell for today, if he could get his hands on it ...

THE popular song goes, "We are friends..." and that's who will be gathering at the end of the reef in Waikiki on Nov. 16 when Friends of the Waikiki Aquarium host Amy Hanaiali'i Gilliom & Friends for a Sunday twilight concert on the Aquarium lawn. Concert tickets are $15 but for an extra five bucks you can eat a Hawaiian dinner provided by Yama's Fish Market ...

Seariders soar

HOW about a big raspberry to those people who fought the founding and construction of the Ko Olina Resort. The folks at Waianae High are certainly in their corner, especially after the resort donated $200,000 in media-production equipment which will be a boon to Searider Productions, previously housed in a small, non-air conditioned room which still managed to produce award-winning projects receiving recognition not just locally, but nationally and internationally as well. Now it'll be even better thanks to the Ko Olina Charities, made possible through the support of the Harry & Jeanette Weinberg Foundation ...

THE Limtiaco Company, forced to leave its longtime headquarters in an urban renewal move, has relocated in the historic Hawaii Times Building on Nuuanu Avenue. It's a grand old building, but bosswoman Ruth Limtiaco had better take note that O'Toole's Irish Pub is located next door, and limit daytime visits there ...

Va va-voom

I'M just old fashioned enough that when I see a beautiful young woman, I mutter "Va va-voom" under my breath. So it's nice to note that the Marsha Nadalin Salon & Spa is sponsoring an evening of complimentary hair styling, makeovers and massages at the Plaza Club and calling it, "Va Voom." Guests also got a sneak peek at holiday fashions via a show emceed by model Tania deJesus ... Speaking of which, Tania is the model in all those Sleepland TV commercials you see on TV. But I swear, people would pay more attention to the message and even purchase Sleepland products, if Tania were dressed in the type of attire she might wear in bed ... This isn't a religious column by any definition, but did you notice that it began with Christ and ended with deJesus? ...
