Media junkets
scheduled here
Following on the success of the "Pearl Harbor" and "Blue Crush" Hawaii press junkets, Warner Bros.-Shangri-La Entertainment and Columbia Studios will hold two major media events in Waikiki in January to promote two films the studios shot here.
WB & Shangri-La's "The Big Bounce" media gathering will be held on Jan. 10 and 11, just before the film's Jan. 30 nationwide release. The film's stars, Morgan Freeman, Owen Wilson, Gary Sinise and Charlie Sheen, will attend. The production filmed mostly on Oahu's North Shore last year for about two months.
Columbia will hold its media junket for Adam Sandler's "50 First Dates" (formerly "50 First Kisses") on Jan. 5 and 6. Sandler, Drew Barrymore and Rob Schneider will attend. The film shot here for five weeks, beginning in May. "Dates" is being released Feb. 13.
Both of the studios' Hawaii junkets will bring about 60 television and 50 print reporters from around the United States.
"The Big Bounce" centers on a drifter who teams up with a criminally minded beauty to rob a powerful local figure. In "50 First Dates," Sandler is a veterinarian who falls for Barrymore, who has a unique memory disorder. She wakes up every morning thinking it's Sunday -- of last year. So Sandler's character sets out to win her love everyday. ...
Banyan Productions' "A Dating Story," The Learning Channel's weekday singles program, will film five days each on Maui and the Big Island in December. The program's producers are looking for single men and women, ages 25 to 35, who'd be interested taking part in a blind date. Each episode brings together two people in the hopes of creating the perfect couple. Cameras follow the pair while viewers learn about each person through interviews as they prepare for the blind date.
