A 1-year-old female Hawaiian hoary bat was held yesterday by Honolulu Zoo veterinarian Ben Okimoto. The bat, named Kiheihaehuehu, or "reddish brown cloak," according to Okimoto, is an endangered species and is the only one living in captivity in the world. Kiheihaehuehu was found almost a year ago in Kona with an injured left wing that she can never use, so she can never be set free. She lives in a nylon mesh cage that is about the size of a big suitcase.
