Wie to play in Korea event
Punahou School freshman Michelle Wie will tee it up in her last professional tour tournament this year at the CJ Nine Bridges Classic at Jeju, Korea, beginning Friday.
The 69-player field includes 50 golfers from the LPGA Tour and 12 from the KLPGA, including Se Ri Pak. Wie and LPGA rookie Aree Song are among the five playing on sponsor exemptions.
The 54-hole tournament continues through Sunday.
Kop repeats as super senior: Wendell Kop successfully defended his super senior title at yesterday's 13th Oahu Country Club Senior Invitational.
The 68-year-old Kop carded a 2-under 140, finishing 13 strokes ahead of Jim Swoish. Dick Palma was third at 155 in the flight for golfers 65 and older.
In the senior division, Russ McGarry held off defending champion Mervin Matsumoto by three strokes. McGarry finished at 141 while Matsumoto came in at 144.
Dick Sieradski was third at 145 with Hawaii women's basketball coach Vince Goo fourth at 148.
Yokomoto-Lynch wins 4-Ball: Beau Yokomoto and John Lynch teamed to win the Assistant's 4-Ball Championship yesterday by nine strokes at the Honolulu Country Club.
Yokomoto and Lynch shot a 126 to easily win over the other seven teams. Scotty Kaneko and Kevin Tsutomi finished at 135.
Pro-scratch coming up: Defending champions Lance Suzuki and Norman-Ganin Asao are among the 36 teams vying for the Bridgestone Sports Pro-Scratch Championship Nov. 3-4 at Pearl Country Club.
The tournament pairs a professional with an amateur. The pros are competing for a $9,000 purse while the amateurs vie for $3,350 in merchandise.
The first round is a two-man scramble while the second round uses a best-ball format.
BYU-Hawaii moves up to No. 6 in poll
The Brigham Young-Hawaii volleyball team jumped two spots in the AVCA Division II Coaches Top 25 poll yesterday.
The Seasiders (15-2) moved to No. 6 with 718 points and six first-place votes. Cal State-San Bernardino (19-3) remained No. 1 with 850 points and 21 first-place votes.
Hawaii Pacific (15-3) fell three spots to 17th following last week's loss to unranked Hawaii-Hilo. Despite the loss, the Sea Warriors received a first-place vote for the first time this season.
Rainbow Wahine host Chinese basketball team
The Chinese national women's basketball team will play an exhibition game against the Hawaii Rainbow Wahine Nov. 16 at 5 p.m. in the Stan Sheriff Center.
Tickets for the exhibition go on sale Nov. 3. The prices are $5 for adults and $4 for senior citizens. All UH students and children age 4-18 will be admitted free. All seats are general admission.
Tickets may be purchased at the Stan Sheriff Center box office, Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., by calling 944-2697 or via the Internet at etickethawaii.com.
The exhibition will be Team China's final game of a tour that includes a pair of games against a WNBA all-star squad and an exhibtion at Oregon State.
Loo scores key goal for Idaho State
Jennifer Loo scored a critical goal for Idaho State on Sunday that kept the Bengals Big Sky Conference tournament berth.
The freshman midfielder from Mililani took a free kick in the 87th minute that glanced off a Sacramento State defender into the goal to tie the score at 1. ISU won 2-1 in overtime.
It was Loo's first goal of the season. She also has three assists in 15 matches.
