Prince plans Pipeline gig

AS IF there weren't enough to do already this Thursday -- fresh off from his tour down under in Australia, the artist once again known as Prince will make a stop in Honolulu to perform at Pipeline Cafe.

Tickets, priced at a cool $75 each, are on sale right now; doors open on Thursday at 9 p.m., with the show getting started at 10 p.m. Call 589-1999 for more details. And if you haven't heard yet, Prince is a Jehovah's Witness, so don't expect to hear some of the more explicit tunes that helped make him popular back in the day ...

FANS OF local boy-turned-rock star Jack Johnson won't have to wait two years to see him perform here again -- plans have been finalized and tickets go on sale Saturday at all Ticketmaster locations for the inaugural Kokua Festival, which takes place Jan. 3 from 10 a.m. to sunset at Kualoa Ranch.

For the first week of sales, local residents will be able to purchase tickets to the festival for $25. After Nov. 8 the price goes up to $30, and will increase to $35 at the gate. Joining Johnson onstage during the day will be local favorites Makana and Amy Hanaiali'i Gilliom with Willie K, New York's DJ Logic and the hip-hop stylings of social activist group Michael Franti & Spearhead.

Along with the musical performances, the Kokua Festival will also feature booths selling local food and other "Made in Hawaii" products. Proceeds from the festival will help support educational and community programs that advocate sustainable living in Hawaii. Check out www.kokuafestival. com for more info ...

STILL HAVEN'T decided exactly where to go for Halloween? Since it falls on a Friday this year, there are a ton of parties worth checking out.

Over at Aloha Tower Marketplace, the Juicy Crew is bringing out import model Kaila Yu to host their "Pimp-n-Ho Halloween Party." Other notable events include the all-ages "Get Freaky" at the Blaisdell Arena, "Enter the Matrix" at the Wave Waikiki, "Halloween Erotica" at Nick's Fishmarket and the 10th anniversary of "The Dungeon" at Galaxy. Lots of choices this year -- make sure to budget enough money for cab fare, or better yet, find a designated driver ...

I'M TAKING the rest of the week off to rest up for Halloween, so party safe and I'll see you back here next Tuesday ...
