Snapshots of America
24/7
More than a decade ago, Rick Smolan and David Cohen, creators of the best-selling "Day in the Life ..." series, descended on our islands to create "A Day in the Life of Hawaii."
Now they're back, with what they're describing as a national family album of images taken during one ordinary week -- May 12 to 18, 2003 -- with selected images comprising "America 24/7," due in bookstores Monday.
Americans from all 50 states were asked to snap digital pictures of friends, family, pets and community.
Featured in the book will be photos by three Hawaii photographers: The Star-Bulletin's George F. Lee, the Honolulu Advertiser's Jeff Widener and Cinema Paradise's Sergio Goes.
But if you're thinking the project ends there, just wait 'til next September, when every state gets its own 24/7 book from remaining images.

Jeff Widener's "Pool Star" took a bird's eye view of his condominium pool.

The Star-Bulletin's George F. Lee captured Kathryn Dolac making good on her bet to wear a bathing suit to her commencement at Chaminade University. Adrienne Uecker, at left, can't believe her eyes.
