Workshops to join medical and spiritual

A "Care Fair" next Saturday will share experiences and resources for churches that seek to combine spiritual and medical aspects of healing in ministry to members.

Workshops at the event sponsored by the Oahu Association United Church of Christ are free and open to the public.

It will begin at 8 a.m. at the Kukui Building, 181 Kukui St., with a worship service and an overview of changes in the U.S. health care system by the Rev. Frank Chong, of Aloha Care.

A continental breakfast and noon lunch will be free. Reservations are required for the meals.

The fair is in conjunction with the church association's annual fall meeting.

Churches to present 2 classical concerts

Two Honolulu churches known for their presentations of classical music have concerts planned.

>> The Lutheran Church of Honolulu will be in the concert hall tomorrow night for a program of Baroque music by the Lund Chamber Orchestra, of Lund, Sweden.

The 7:30 p.m. performance will include works by Bach, Handel and Grieg, with the church choir joining the visiting orchestra.

The concert will pre-empt the regular Sunday Gregorian chant program.

Tickets are $15, with special rates for seniors and students. The concert will benefit a church building program.

>> St. Andrew's Cathedral Choir will perform choral music by Stanford and Bainon Nov. 2 at an Organ Recital and Choral Evensong.

Arlan Sunnarborg will direct the singers and perform organ pieces including Franck's "Prelude, Fugue and Variation" and "Litanies" by Alain.

The monthly evensong is free but a calabash offering is welcomed.

Seminar on Hawaii Muslims at UH-Manoa

The "History of Hawaii Muslims" will be described in a noon program Thursday at the University of Hawaii Henke Hall, 1800 East West Road.

Senior Mona Darwich, who combined her Muslim faith with her work for a degree in sociology, will share her thesis research, including oral history videos of local Muslims.

The presentation at the Center for Biographical Research is open to the public, and will be followed by an opportunity for questions and debate.
