Feldmann, Stubblefield repeat as champions
The team of Andrew Feldmann and Larry Stubblefield successfully defended their Golf Concepts Four-Ball Match Play title yesterday, defeating Beau Yokomoto and Wade Nishimoto 3 and 2 at Oahu Country Club.
Feldmann-Stubblefield reached the final with a 6 and 5 win over David Kowalczyk and Marc Smith in yesterday's semifinal. Yokomoto and Nishimoto advanced with a 1-up win in the semifinal against Shane Abe and Scotty Kaneko.
Robb eliminated in Billabong Pro
MUNDAKA, Basque Country >> Hawaii's Kalani Robb was eliminated in yesterday's second round of the Billabong Pro Mundaka surf meet at Bakio Beach.
Robb joined Andy Irons, the only other Hawaii surfer, on the sidelines after being eliminated by Brazil's Victor Ribas, 11.84-9.94. Ribas trailed for most of the heat before pulling a higher-scoring maneuver in choppy conditions in the final seconds in the World Championship Tournament stop.
Robb tied for 17th, earning $4,000. Irons, who was eliminated in the first round, tied for 33rd, earning $3,000.
BYUH No. 4, HPU No. 6 in regional poll
The Brigham Young-Hawaii and Hawaii Pacific women's volleyball team are both ranked in the top six of the NCAA Division II regional rankings.
The defending national champion Seasiders (14-2) remained at No. 4, while the Sea Warriors (15-2) moved up two spots to No. 6. The rankings are used to determine invitations to the NCAA Tournament, with six teams from each of the eight regions selected.
Konawaena's Hoist commits to Eastern Kentucky
Konawaena High senior Nancy Hoist has verbally committed to play basketball for Eastern Kentucky.
The 2003 Big Island Player of the Year is projected to play small forward for the Lady Colonels. She will be the second Hawaii player to earn a scholarship at EKU in two years; Lahainaluna center Fatai Hala'api'api is about to begin her freshman season.
